Position Summary
The Carl Vinson Institute of Government at The University of Georgia invites applications for a Public Service Faculty position in the Governmental Training, Education, and Development (GTED) Division. The position will be available December 1, 2025 and carries rank in the public service faculty career ladder of the University. . This position encompasses a broad range of duties and responsibilities primarily associated with conducting educational programs for government officials. These include needs assessment, program planning, lesson plan development, instructional delivery in a classroom setting, evaluation and assessment administration, retreat facilitation, organizational development, and providing consultation and technical assistance to government officials (and related boards and associations) at the state level. Duties/Responsibilities
Provides training for state government officials and personnel, including developing and updating curriculum and lesson plans and teaching both in-person and virtually. Course load will include existing courses in the Financial Management Program’s Budget and Financial Management Certification Program and Local Government Finance Officer Program, as well as other existing classes in other programs. Develops new curriculum for state and local government course offerings. Typical classes are 6 hours (one-day), or 12 hours (two-day). Manages the Budget and Financial Management Certification Program, which includes marketing classes to state government employees, monitoring enrollments, and managing the program budget. Works with state stakeholders to ensure continued accuracy and relevancy of program materials. Provides consultation and technical assistance on projects related to state government. Typical projects may include writing or reviewing reports, publications, or presentations. Collaborates with colleagues across the Institute of Government and UGA Public Service and Outreach to provide new and innovative educational development opportunities for government officials. Minimum Qualifications
A master’s degree in accounting, public administration, business administration or related field is required. Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
A terminal degree in accounting, public administration, business administration, education, or related field preferred. Five or more years of progressively responsible experience with the State of Georgia in finance, budget or a related area. Background working with Workday software. Background working with federal grants. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Strong knowledge of State of Georgia budget and financial management processes including budget and financial reports and financial management software Ability to work in a group Ability to provide instruction and the dissemination of information in an effective manner. Finance and budget research skills Ability to develop and conduct training events Ability to take initiative and work independently Advanced oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to establish priorities and organize work Ability to travel throughout the state and out-of-state as requested Ability to lead up to 100 (6 hour) days of training per year Ability to communicate highly technical topics Ability to successfully interact with state and local government personnel Ability to develop training for the State’s accounting and budget software Knowledge of and background working with Zoom or similar video conferencing platforms Is this a Position of Trust?
