Qualifications Teaching license and AIG licensure; Minimum 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience at the middle school level; Demonstrated expertise in services for Gifted students; Evidence of understanding the characteristics of adult learners; Highly skilled in collaboration and communication; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Reports To Principal and Coordinator of Gifted Services
Job Goal To provide instructional services and support to gifted students; to provide leadership and consultation in the development, implementation and reflection of rigorous instructional programs for all students.
Performance Responsibilities
Works with principals and the School Gifted Program Team to provide leadership and implementation of the District’s Plan for Gifted services
Advocates for gifted students and the recognition and development of gifts and talents in all students
Coordinates, administers, and interprets appropriate testing for identification of gifted students
Serves as coach/resource to build teacher capacity to implement lesson extension activities and instructional strategies that foster critical thinking and intellectual coaching for all students
Provides direct and indirect instruction to students
Collaborates with teachers to develop, support, and review the Differentiated Education Plan (DEP) and Individualized Differentiated Education Plan (IDEP) processes
Supports the learning goals of twice-exceptional students
Facilitates professional development concerning best practices for high ability students
Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
Coordinates school-wide communication and is a resource for Gifted Education Services to parents and faculty
Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.
Terms Of Employment Ten‑month year teaching position. Compensation is according to placement on NC teacher salary schedule and applicable local supplement.
Evaluation Performance of this job is evaluated in accordance with the provisions of Board policy on evaluation of teaching personnel.
