Jacksonville Children's Chorus
Church Organist & Pianist
Jacksonville Children's Chorus, Downers Grove, Illinois, United States, 60516
Overview
The First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove, Illinois is seeking a Church Organist and accompanist for our adult Chancel choir. We are a vibrant, liberal congregation, welcoming people of all race, gender and sexual orientation. The choir has a rich musical tradition, a professional director, and singers of varying skill levels. Responsibilities
Sunday worship services are at 8:30am in the chapel, and at 10 o’clock live-streamed over YouTube from the sanctuary. Other seasonal services include Christmas Eve (3 services), and the evenings of Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. The Chancel choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from September through May, and twice yearly has a dress rehearsal on Saturday morning before the choir Cantatas, which are often accompanied by a professional orchestra or small ensemble. This is a year-round position, with 6 paid weekends off. During the choir’s summer break (June to August) the organist recruits, schedules, accompanies and coaches church members and other local musicians to perform special music at 10 o’clock services. You would also play at or find substitutes for weddings and funeral/memorial services on other days as requested, for additional compensation. Our sanctuary has a Phelps 39 rank, 2 manual organ installed in 1975, and a 7-foot Steinway studio grand piano. The chapel has a 2 manual electronic organ, and a smaller grand piano. Qualifications
Candidates should have considerable experience in traditional and modern Christian music, played on both pipe organ and piano. In addition to playing solo pieces for prelude, offertory and postlude and accompanying hymns and choral anthems during services, the organist collaborates with and coaches soloists and instrumentalists for other special music. Opportunities exist to organize and conduct a brass ensemble at Easter, and to work with our hand-bell choir and other musicians as desired.
