Overview
Grounds Supervisor at University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). The Grounds Supervisor will supervise groundskeepers performing manual labor duties in the maintenance of grounds and facilities.

Primary Duties
Determines work priorities, plans, schedules, assigns and reviews work; trains subordinate personnel.
Supervises grounds maintenance activities: cultivating, planting, watering, fertilizing, weeding, mowing and/or pruning lawns, gardens, shrubs, and trees.
Directs removal of trash and debris from assigned areas.
Supervises removal of snow and ice using hand and power equipment. Spreads salt, sand and de‑icers to prevent slipping.
Prepares and maintains written reports and records.
Ensures adequate supplies, materials and equipment are maintained in department.
Ensures operational readiness and safety of equipment such as mowers, tillers, sweepers, snow blowers, edgers, shovels, small vehicles. Performs routine assembly, cleaning and maintenance of equipment as needed.
Assists in maintenance of outdoor fields and athletic facilities.
Performs procedures for measuring mixing and applying fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides and chemicals as instructed.
Performs groundskeeper duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications Education: none. Experience: Three years in groundskeeping in a lead or supervisory capacity. Other: substitutes for education/experience as described.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities General knowledge of grounds maintenance practices; operating and caring for lawn, garden, shrub, tree; mixing and applying chemicals; operation of hand/power tools; organizing and coordinating grounds work; supervision; communication. Physical requirements: work at heights up to 35 ft; heavy lifting; adverse weather; protective equipment.
Conditions of Employment Class C driver’s license required. Certification by State of Maryland as pesticide/herbicide applicator may be required. Medical inquiries/examinations may be required. Not eligible for bargaining unit. Salary range $56,000-$60,000 per year.
