Part-Time Campus Police Officer Wytheville Community College System is seeking a part-time campus police officer to enforce Virginia law, provide a secure learning environment for staff, faculty, students, and visitors, and support emergency response across multiple college sites.

Work Location

Wytheville Campus – Wythe County, VA

Crossroads Institute – Galax, VA

West Offsite – Marion, VA

Job Responsibilities

Foot patrol of the main campus and offsite locations.

Check doors and record findings.

Secure buildings and open doors as needed.

Assist other departments within and outside the college system.

Answer phones and provide courteous information to visitors.

Handle complaints using proper customer service methods.

Act as a liaison to emergency responders during an emergency.

Complete required reports in a timely manner, ensuring completeness.

Participate in emergency drills and evaluate the drills process, providing feedback.

Report building and grounds deficiencies to the Maintenance Department and ensure correct warning material is displayed.

Display initiative and efficiency.

Practice good teamwork within the department.

Maintain regular and dependable attendance and punctuality.

Use knowledge and reasoning skills to make sound decisions that enhance the mission of the department and college.

Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's / Required Qualifications

Current certification through VA DCJS (Law Enforcement) including Academy completion (required for sworn Police Officer designation).

Current firearms certification and maintenance.

First Aid and CPR training; maintain certification.

Physically able to walk considerable distances.

Appropriate level of NIMS training.

Calm and professional handling of simple and complex situations.

Quality customer service to students, visitors, and staff.

Successfully complete all trainings as required by the college; maintain certification in the use of the Taser.

Obtain and maintain certification in Taser, First Aid, CPR, and AED.

Complete all other training as required by the college and DCJS.

Additional Considerations

Law Enforcement experience.

Operation of a State Vehicle.

May be required to travel to all Wytheville Community College offsite locations.
