Staff Accountant

City of Collinsville The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the municipality by performing a variety of accounting tasks. This position ensures accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, maintains financial records, and assists in preparing reports to support the city's financial management. The Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations. Responsibilities
Process and record daily financial transactions, including journal entries, receipts, disbursements, and adjustments. Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data. Assist and prepare payroll, bank reconciliations of intermediate complexity, preparation of regularly scheduled and special billings, cash counts and balancing. Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting. Accounts Payable And Receivable
Process accounts payable transactions, including verifying invoices, preparing payment vouchers, and ensuring timely payments to vendors. Manage accounts receivable functions, including invoicing, collections, and recording payments. Reconcile accounts payable and receivable sub-ledgers with the general ledger. Budget And Financial Reporting
Assist in preparing budget reports and financial statements, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines. Monitor budget performance, identifying variances and providing analysis to support management decisions. Prepare periodic financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including department heads and auditors. Compliance And Internal Controls
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, maintaining accurate and organized records for audit and reporting purposes. Assist in developing and implementing internal controls to enhance financial processes and safeguard municipal assets. Financial Analysis
Conduct financial analysis to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning efforts. Assist in the preparation of financial projections and ad-hoc reports as requested by management. Collaboration And Team Support
Collaborate with other finance team members to ensure efficient and effective financial operations. Provide support to the Controller and Finance Director in special projects and initiatives. Participate in cross-departmental projects to improve financial processes and procedures. Minimum Qualifications
This position requires a Bachelor degree in accounting from an accredited college or university; general knowledge of accounting principles as they relate to fund accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, utility billing, payroll, and general ledger functions; proficiency in Microsoft Office; and one (1) to three (3) years of progressively responsible management experience in accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Salary and Benefits
This is a non-exempt position, hourly position starting at $25.56 per hour to $28.22 per hour (overtime and compensation time eligible). The City of Collinsville offers a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, vision and prescription 100% funded by the City for single coverage. Pension and Disability Benefits are with the Illinois Municipal Retirement (IMRF) system.
