Senior Director Responsibilities
Manage all aspects of accounting, including billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, tax compliance, inventory accounting, revenue recognition, and special analyses. Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to ensure GAAP compliance and regulatory requirements. Design and manage efficient accounting processes and lead the accounting team to timely monthly closes. Ensure accurate coding of transactions for budget-to-actual views at program/campaign and functional levels, as needed by internal or external stakeholders. Coordinate global audit activity and oversee country audits; prepare annual financial statements and oversee tax filings (including Form 990) and country-specific filings. Present regular financial reports to senior leadership after monthly closes, with clear communication of trends and issues. Establish and enforce a comprehensive system of internal controls and finance policies across the organization. Provide hands-on mentorship, training, and professional development to the finance team; facilitate effective collaboration with stakeholders. Team and requirements
Prior experience as a controller at two or more organizations of a similar or larger size (GD revenue ≈ $200M/year; total team 800–900 FTE). Expertise in US Federal Uniform Guidance related to USAID grants. Strong people management skills, with the ability to be hands-on with a 20+ person finance team across accounting, FP&A, payments, and treasury. International experience and cultural competency working with Africa-based teams and US-based stakeholders. Familiarity with IFRS and US GAAP and understanding of differences when cross-applying either framework. Strong process-improvement mindset and ability to design efficient accounting processes. Tech-savvy with accounting systems experience; preferably Sage Intacct. Alignment with GiveDirectly values and core competencies: emotional intelligence, problem solving, project management, follow-through, and inclusivity. Candidates with relevant community experience are encouraged to apply. For candidates not based in Africa —Requirement for regular overlap with East Africa team: at least 2 hours daily in overlapping time zones (e.g., 8am–10am EST; 7am occasionally).
