The Department of Psychiatry is seeking an Accountant Intermediate to join our Finance team. The Accountant Intermediate will serve as a key administrative partner delivering vital financial support to faculty, staff, and other team members. In this role, you will oversee a substantial portfolio of funds, actively contribute to the budgeting process, and demonstrate exceptional customer service skills. Utilize Business Objects, M-Pathways, M-Reports, and Business Intelligence to create and/or assist with the preparation of various monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports Manage, prepare forecasts, and analyze spending trends for a large portfolio of funds including start-up, discretionary, gifts, and other departmental accounts Assist with providing necessary data forecasts for annual budget preparation Assist with monthly financial and budget variance reporting Facilitate the processing of annual payments to faculty members who have met departmental targets through a batch upload process Assist in the preparation of annual faculty profiles for performance valuations Review transactions for correct classification, chartfield information, and appropriateness; initiate corrective action with journal entries as necessary Perform other financial duties as necessary Qualifications
Bachelor\'s Degree in Accounting or another business-related field Two or more years of related professional experience Demonstrated ability and experience in reconciling financial accounting data, as evidenced by two or more years of work experience Demonstrated awareness and ability to understand accounting fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially advanced functions in Excel Demonstrated customer service competencies as evidenced by the ability to focus on the needs of other resulting in being recognized as providing superior customer service Demonstrated ability to be a positive influence on the work team as evidenced by an approachable, positive attitude resulting in increased collaboration and support of group initiatives Demonstrated excellent written and verbal skills as evidenced by messages being understood by constituents Demonstrated strong organizational skills with attention to detail A self-starter who takes initiative and has the ability to multitask and prioritize competing demands Ability to work independently with accuracy and accountability Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately Knowledge of accounting concepts, practices, and procedures Knowlege of University policies and procedures Experience working in a non-profit organization Experience with M-Pathways (Peoplesoft), Emburse, Business Objects Querying/Reporting Tool Additional Information
This is a full-time position, with a Monday-Friday work week. Schedules are flexible within the core set of work hours. Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses. In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position. Job openings are posted for a minimum of seven calendar days.
