Zurich North America is seeking an experienced Senior Energy Oil, Gas & Power Gen Underwriter (Senior Level III or AVP Level IV) to join our National Accounts team in Zurich’s New York or Houston office. While this position will be based out of New York or Houston, you will have the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis with a schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. The role requires visibility in the marketplace to meet with agents and brokers, with in-office market presence three days per week. We may, at the sole discretion of the hiring manager, be open to hiring talent remotely. This role will be filled at either the Senior Energy Oil, Gas & Power Gen Underwriter (Level III) or AVP, Energy Oil, Gas & Power Gen Underwriter (Level IV). The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based on the selected applicant’s experience and the qualifications listed below.
Responsibilities
Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules. Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business-related needs, as appropriate. Provide guidance to lower-level associates as needed. Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition; determine insurance-related needs and provide solutions. Support the sales culture by serving as a Help Point for agents, brokers and customers. Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities. Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities. Qualify accounts to align with the organization’s appetite and sound business opportunities. Make broker/customer and on-site calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.
Basic Qualifications
Senior Level III
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area AND Knowledge of Microsoft Office Experience working under time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business Experience working in a team environment AVP Level IV
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area AND Experience with Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications (Both Levels)
Bachelor’s Degree Technical knowledge of Energy Oil, Gas & Power Gen Underwriting Established broker relationships (retail brokers) within the New York region Sales execution mindset Creative problem solving skills Strong verbal and written communication skills
Salary and benefits: Zurich provides a compensation range that depends on location, role, skills, and experience. The combined salary range for this position is $122,900.00 – $266,300.00. The proposed salary range for the Senior level is $122,900.00 – $201,300.00, with a 15% short-term incentive bonus. The proposed salary range for the AVP Level is $162,500.00 – $266,300.00, with a 20% short-term incentive bonus.
