Role Summary The Controller will be a key leader in the Finance department, responsible for overseeing all accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, and maintaining robust internal controls. This role requires a strong technical accountant with experience in fast-paced environments, ideally within e-commerce, manufacturing, or healthcare/pharmacy.
Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & General Ledger
Direct all general accounting functions, including the general ledger, accounts payable, and payroll.
Manage the timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
Prepare and publish monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring appropriate documentation and audit trails.
Cost & Inventory Accounting
Oversee inventory valuation ensuring accurate costing for materials.
Analyze and report on cost of goods sold (COGS), variances, and profitability by product line and channel.
Compliance & Internal Controls
Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
Manage all compliance reporting, including federal, state, and local tax filings (e.g., sales tax, property tax), working closely with external advisors.
Coordinate and manage external financial audits, serving as the primary point of contact for auditors.
Financial Planning & Analysis Support
Collaborate with the CFO and leadership team on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
Provide detailed variance analysis of actual results versus budget/forecast.
Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for cost savings and process improvement.
Leadership & Management
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of high performance, accuracy, and continuous process improvement.
Manage relationships with external financial partners, including banking, insurance, and audit firms.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2+ years in a Controller or Senior Accounting Manager role.
Proven technical expertise in U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Demonstrable experience with
inventory, manufacturing, or cost accounting
in a product-based environment.
Expert-level proficiency in accounting software (ERP systems) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within the
Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) E-commerce
industries.
Prior experience managing accounting in a multi-state operation.
Active CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license is highly preferred.
