FEMA Corporation is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant. This position will be an integral part of our Accounting team, working closely with all FEMA Engineering, Operations, and Compliance departments to conduct cost-variance analysis, prepare detailed reports on cost information, and provide actionable insights to improve financial efficiency. The Cost Accountant blends technical expertise, strategic thinking, and an ability to communicate those findings to the appropriate parties to facilitate change and aid in the execution of said changes. The Cost Accountant reports to the Controller. Normal work hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Job Responsibilities

Project & Team Responsibilities – 50% of time

Conduct detailed analysis of manufacturing costs and operational variances, including materials, labor, and overheads

Month-end close processes

Responsible for physical inventory and reconciliation, Identification of excess and obsolete inventory

Prepare cost-related journal entries, supporting schedules, and detailed manufacturing cost reports

Analyzes, investigates, and corrects accounting entries as needed.

Administer cost accounting activities to ensure accurate costing and valuation of production, cost of sales and inventory

Monitor and reconcile variances between standard and actual costs; investigate and explain discrepancies

Participate in periodic inventory counts and reconcile physical counts to system records

Strategic – 50% of time

Prepare and implement analyses and modeling that identify inefficiencies and areas of growth with respect to operations

Provide data extraction, trend analyses, cost/benefit analyses, ROI analyses, and various other strategic analyses to support operations management

Examine costs that seem contrary to past experience

Support budgeting, forecasting, and participate in cross-functional projects to improve systems and processes

Other duties as assigned

Technical Skills

Data analysis, a solid understanding of GAAP, and experience with Month-End Close processes

Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and the competitive landscape, leveraging this knowledge to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and 3-7+ years of experience in an accounting or finance environment is required.

Skilled in analytical cost accounting and identification of changes in product design or manufacturing methods to determine effects on costs.

Efficient in preparing reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex financial information.

Excellent written and oral communication, along with conflict management skills required.

Microsoft Office, ERP Experience, and industry-driven software systems.
