New Visions for Public Schools . The Curriculum & Instruction (C&I) Department works to ensure outstanding instruction in every classroom. Sustainable implementation of high-quality curriculum is a key driver and supports the growth of teachers, administrators, counselors, and librarians at various career stages. The C&I work is grounded in understanding how students learn, adult learning principles to support teachers and school leaders, opportunities to adapt curriculum materials for specific classroom contexts or student needs, and continuous improvement over time. The Literacy Consultant role is responsible for developing tools and resources to address literacy development needs within the C&I Department and New Visions' network of schools. This includes developing coaching plans to build capacity of teachers and instructional leaders, calibrating school literacy plans with student needs, clarifying the instructional coaching model for various support situations, and partnering with data staff to develop new tools for reading in the Portal. The role requires strong collaboration and coordination with internal partners to gather information, then communicating effectively with school-facing staff to understand challenges and provide solutions. This role is temporary through February 2026. The expected schedule is 5-10 hours per week at $65/hour. Core Duties and Responsibilities

Collaborate with the New Visions Curriculum & Instruction Literacy team on activities to support literacy coaching and coaching products for various support situations. Review student reading data, including SWD and ML, and provide schools with asynchronous feedback on reading support services and reading goals. Partner with New Visions data teams to develop tools for reading in the Portal. Refine and systematize core decisions that schools must make to support and monitor reading programs aligned with school needs and NYC PS guidelines. Ensure that state and federal compliance requirements for students with disabilities and multilingual learners are met when designing reading support programs. Assess coaching plans that develop school-based capacity among teachers and instructional leaders as needed. Codify and transition the work to existing and potentially new Literacy Team members. Education and Experience

Masters-level degree Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in public education, preferably urban schools and secondary level Minimum of 3 years experience coaching teachers and leaders in literacy instruction and reading development at the secondary level Required Skill Sets and Knowledge Base

Expert knowledge of Wilson Language Interventions or Orton-Gillingham principles; experience with other reading interventions such as Wilson Reading System (WRS), Wilson Just Words, REWARDS, and Stari is preferred Leadership in delivering professional development and support to educators Experience with teaching reading and writing skills to secondary school students Excellent written, oral, organizational, and interpersonal skills, including strong facilitation skills Demonstrated experience and enthusiasm for working collaboratively Understanding of high school graduation requirements and compliance for special populations Disclaimer
