Responsibilities
Process and package instruments and instrument sets to be used in surgical procedures
Properly package and load items on the carriage for sterilization
Store, issue, and track equipment; this includes delivery and pick up from various departments
Operate, monitor, and exchange the Detergent Management System
Operate all SPD equipment in a safe and efficient manner
Troubleshoot and resolve problems with sterilizers
Properly test equipment and document following sterility assurance guidelines
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Experience in Sterile Processing and / or Instrumentation Room training helpful
Computer skills required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (including, but not limited to, Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.), Ability to learn Cerner, IDX, and other applicable hospital-based programs as they pertain to the required job duties
Physical Capabilities Work is of heavy demand. Walking and standing most of the time on duty. The technician will occasionally be required to push or pull charts weighing as much as 100 pounds and lifting items as heavy as 50 pounds. Frequent reaching and bending required. Frequent handling of instruments is necessary. Sight, speech and hearing are a must.
Environmental / Working Conditions The decontamination work is done in an area that is at high risk for exposure to blood born pathogens. Exposure risk to high temperature steam and hydrogen peroxide. This position is subject to inside environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
