An Off-Campus Work-Study Position - MUST have a Work-Study Award
Responsibilities
Develop and oversee a student point-based economic system that encourages responsibility, participation, and positive behavior
Organize and manage donations, community volunteers, and transportation for student civic projects
Support civic education and participation projects that:
Teach how government works
Raise awareness of public resources and services
Promote civic involvement and community improvement
Engage students in hands-on learning through service projects and interactive discussions
Build partnerships with community members, businesses, and organizations to support the program
Coordinate and support peer mentors for student engagement
Ensure Special Education students have access and support to participate fully in all civic and economic activities
Provide or arrange training for students involved in emergency preparedness and public safety awareness
Prioritize civic education projects related to evacuation, emergency response, and injury prevention
Civic Education Goals
Teach the importance of civic responsibility and community involvement
Develop informed and engaged student citizens
Encourage service learning, critical thinking, and ethical behavior
Promote respect for diversity and inclusion
Minimum Qualifications Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Preferred Qualifications Qualifications
Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study
Interest in civic education, youth development, or community outreach
Strong communication and organizational skills
Experience with school or community programs preferred
Willingness to work closely with students, staff, families, and community partners
Supportive of inclusive education for students with diverse learning needs
