Overview
To provide specimen collection or processing of laboratory samples for the Clinical Laboratory department of a Medical Center dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents. Responsibilities
Professional Development
- Maintain currency in the field, including maintenance of licensure/certification, through continuing education, conferences, meetings, in-services, networking, literature, and/or seminars. Attend all mandatory training sessions. Implement obtained knowledge/skills into one’s own work, the department, and/or the organization. Assume responsibility for one’s own professional growth and development. May participate in internal/external professional committees, agencies, councils, and/or activities. Process Improvement
- Participate in improving/assuring organizational and/or departmental performance/quality by recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and/or providing input to department discussions. Identify and recommend areas for process/system improvement. May work with appropriate personnel to implement changes and participate in evaluation of improvement initiatives/activities. Technical
- Responsible for one primary function of laboratory support including collection of samples for laboratory testing following approved procedures. Receive and accession specimens using LIS; ensure proper patient identification, specimen integrity and timeliness. Perform EPIC registration as required. Follow CAP guidelines. Resolve test order related issues and manage add-on tests. Perform routine procedures within the discipline and document activities in HIS or LIS as appropriate. Customer Service – Patient
- Act as a customer advocate and strive to better meet the needs of, and to support, patients and/or families. Provide courteous, attentive, and conscientious service. Respond quickly to parent requests and concerns. Provide education/information to patients and/or families. Department Support
- Produce work that is accurate, neat, complete and timely. Identify technical and specimen related problems or discrepancies. Demonstrate knowledge of laboratory information systems. Retrieve results, locate specimen requirements, fax results, troubleshoot issues, perform registrations, scanning, and assist with send-outs in monitoring pending logs. Perform routine operational functions such as supply inventory. Monitor transfer lists to ensure specimen receipt. Demonstrate flexibility within the department. Qualifications
