Geographic Information Systems Technician
Join our team as a Geographic Information Systems Technician and help shape the way the City of Brentwood uses data to serve the community. This position supports and maintains the City’s GIS database and mapping applications, using GIS tools and technology to ensure accurate, high-quality geographic data that informs city planning, infrastructure, and public services.
Key Responsibilities
Accurately creating and maintaining data stored in a geodatabase that is used to produce GIS maps and analysis results that support informed decision making.
Assigning locations to other information sets for mobile clients and applying a standard editing workflow to support accurate field data collection and updates to the GIS database.
Efficiently creating and editing feature geometry and attributes and solve common data alignment issues.
Digitizing and editing geographic features to maintain spatial relationships using topology.
Compiling and integrating map data for automation from diverse sources such as existing maps, aerial photography, and satellite imagery.
Solving problems related to the registration of different map layers.
Designing high-quality map and graphic products for output by the GIS system.
Gathering, verifying inputs, edits and maintaining tabular and spatial data from a variety of digital and paper source documents; performs quality assurance checks on gathered data.
Generating custom GIS data queries as requested.
Providing backup support to other GIS staff; assists senior staff in testing GIS applications, software packages and utilities.
Providing assistance to other city staff on GIS functions and applications.

Education and Experience Guidelines Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
Two (2) years of experience in GIS, mapping or related field.
Licenses and Certifications
Depending on assignment, possession of a valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record must be maintained throughout employment.
