Geographic Information Systems Technician
Join our team as a Geographic Information Systems Technician
and help shape the way the City of Brentwood uses data to serve the community! This position supports and maintains the City’s GIS database and mapping applications, using GIS tools and technology to ensure accurate, high-quality geographic data that informs city planning, infrastructure, and public services.
Key responsibilities
Accurately create and maintain data stored in a geodatabase that is used to produce GIS maps and analysis results that support informed decision making.
Assign locations to other information sets for mobile clients and apply a standard editing workflow to support accurate field data collection and updates to the GIS database.
Efficiently create and edit feature geometry and attributes and solve common data alignment issues.
Digitize and edit geographic features to maintain spatial relationships using topology.
Compile and integrate map data for automation from diverse sources such as existing maps, aerial photography, and satellite imagery.
Solving problems related to the registration of different map layers.
Design high-quality map and graphic products for output by the GIS system.
Gather, verify, inputs, edits and maintain tabular and spatial data from a variety of digital and paper source documents; perform quality assurance checks on gathered data.
Generate custom GIS data queries as requested.
Provide backup support to other GIS staff; assist senior staff in testing GIS applications, software packages and utilities.
Provide assistance to other city staff on GIS functions and applications.

Two (2) years of experience in GIS, mapping or related field.
Licenses and Certifications
Depending on assignment, possession of a valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record must be maintained throughout employment.
