Accountant - Norfolk, VA Enjoy a rewarding and challenging position with a nonprofit organization that has been helping educate, train, and provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities since 1955. We are currently seeking an applicant for a full-time accountant who will examine, analyze, and interpret accounting records to prepare financial statements, give advice, or audit and evaluate statements prepared by others. Prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization

Execute daily treasury management procedures and make journal entries

Code invoices, set up new accounts, and reconcile accounts

Reconcile bank accounts at least monthly, verify deposits, and address inquiries from banks

Reconcile cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts

Verify and/or complete ACH payment of invoices associated with accounts payable

Record ACH and credit card deposits associated with accounts receivable

Prepare, post, verify, and record customer transactions related to accounts receivable

Manage accounts receivable collections, to include delinquent letters and court proceedings

Maintain knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures

Provide outside auditors with assistance by gathering necessary account information and documents to perform annual audits

Assist the Payroll Specialist and Human Resources Division with payroll processing as needed

Assist Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Accounting, with financial analysis, department requests, and special projects

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required

Minimum three years of related experience required

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting

Ability to correctly prepare tax reports

Effective use of technology and information systems, including, but not limited to, Microsoft 365 and relevant accounting software like NetSuite, QuickBooks, and Dynamics

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and occasional stooping

Fine manipulation and keyboarding

Must be able to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds

Must be free of tuberculosis in a communicable form

Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work in an office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal, and the temperature may vary due to seasonal changes.
