Overview
Structure Representative / Assistant Structure Representative – Transportation Engineer Civil (TEC). Located in Cameron Park, El Dorado County. Entry‑level civil engineering position under the direction of a Senior Bridge Engineer in Caltrans Structure Construction.
Responsibilities
Perform professional engineering work on highway construction projects involving bridges, buildings, walls, drainage structures, sign structures and related appurtenances.
Act as a field engineer to ensure contractors build structures in compliance with the contract documents (Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, contract plans and Special Provisions).
May serve as an Assistant Structure Representative or Assistant Resident Engineer / Resident Engineer on construction projects.
Participate in the Caltrans Transportation Engineer (Civil) Rotation Program; may be required to go on loan to another project delivery function for temporary or peak staffing needs.
Review and evaluate field construction methods for structural integrity and safety.
Prepare and review construction drawings, specifications and work proposals.
Maintain a valid professional engineer’s license in the State of California (Range D).
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications per the Classification Specification for Transportation Engineer (Civil).
Valid Professional Engineering (Civil) license issued by the California Board of Professional Engineers (required for Range D).
Valid driver’s license required for travel to field locations.
Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) – typed, no more than 2 pages, single‑spaced, 12‑point font.
Resume – required; must be submitted with the application.
Passed the Transportation Engineer (Civil) exam – candidates may be evaluated on exam score.
Education – ABET‑accredited civil engineering degree or applicable combination of education, experience and credential.
Additional qualifications include completion of the required training, experience evaluation and compliance with all state civil service hiring rules.
