We are seeking a Software Business Analyst to bridge the gap between stakeholders and the development team, ensuring business needs are clearly understood and translated into actionable requirements. The Business Analyst will lead business planning, scope definition, requirements elicitation, analysis, documentation, and validation. Based in our Chesapeake, VA office, this role will shape strategic initiatives, refine product visions, and guide teams throughout the agile lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
Lead and attend engineering vision sessions
Help refine and organize the product vision
Collaborate with SMEs and stakeholders to define and clarify requirements
Participate in cross-application work groups to address complex requirements and dependencies
Requirements Documentation and User Story Development
Organize requirements into Epics and Features by work area and functionality
Document requirements as User Stories that clearly capture business value
Ensure User Stories include testable acceptance criteria
Include supporting UI/UX design artifacts to enhance clarity
Agile Process and Team Collaboration
Facilitate requirements refinement and provide clarification during Sprint Planning
Capture and refine requirements during Sprint Reviews and Retrospectives
Assist the Product Owner with backlog refinement and prioritization
Clarify expected system behavior during active Sprints
Support prioritization of infrastructure, security, and technical debt items within the backlog
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Management Systems, Business Management, or related field with 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, with emphasis on software requirements or 9+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, with emphasis on software requirements with no degree.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance
Experience translating requirements into User Stories
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to explain complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences
Desired Qualifications:
Hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum practices
Proficiency with software tracking tools (Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar)
Experience working in DoD or federal environments
Familiarity with ITIL, CMMI, or similar service-oriented frameworks
Familiarity with Gherkin and behavior-driven development
Exposure to or understanding of Test-Driven Development (TDD)
