Job Title: Cost Accounting Manager - Location: Shelbyville, Tennessee or Tijuana, Mexico - Reports to: VP Corporate Controller

Overview of Role National Pen has an immediate opportunity for an entrepreneurial-minded, solution-oriented Cost Accounting Manager. The role will execute day-to-day processes focused on inventory and cost accounting, including establishing standard costs, analyzing variances and reviewing plant operating performance. The selected candidate will support all major accounting, budgeting and reporting functions.

What you will do

Analyze, interpret and communicate monthly manufacturing expense and standard cost variances.

Work with plant management to address root causes of variances and recommend solutions.

Support manufacturing plant management with operational initiatives and analysis.

Develop and maintain inventory cost standards for materials, labor and overhead.

Review the valuation of inventory and adequacy of inventory reserves.

Manage and participate in the annual physical inventory and monthly cycle counting processes.

Maintain accounting and reporting of fixed assets and construction in process.

Maintain the general ledger system in Oracle and the standard chart of accounts.

Prepare, record and review general ledger account entries and reconciliations in Oracle.

Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.

Support external auditors in the annual audit process.

Contribute to the forecasting and budgeting process.

Identify, recommend and implement business and financial process improvements, including automation of various tasks.

Key Functional Requirements

Cost Analysis and Reporting – Analyze production costs and prepare detailed reports.

Budgeting and Forecasting – Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic forecasts.

Inventory Valuation – Ensure accurate valuation of raw materials, work-in-progress, finished goods inventory.

Standard Costing – Develop and maintain standard costs for all products.

Process Improvement – Collaborate with global finance and operations teams to implement cost‑saving initiatives.

Data Management – Maintain and update cost accounting data in the ERP system.

Compliance – Ensure all cost accounting practices adhere to company policies and accounting standards.

What we need from you

Education – Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.

Experience – 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including significant exposure to cost accounting in a manufacturing environment.

Industry Exposure – Experience within multi‑site or multinational manufacturing organization.

Technical Skills – Proficiency with Oracle ERP and advanced Excel modeling with automation tools.

Analytical Strength – Demonstrated ability to identify root causes and analyze financial trends.

Communication – Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.

Leadership & Collaboration – Proven ability to partner cross‑functionally with Operations and Finance.

Personal Attributes – Highly organized, detail‑oriented, proactive with continuous improvement mindset.
