SUMMARY:

The Senior Accounting Analyst will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of Alameda Health System's general ledger and financial statements. This position is expected to function with a minimum amount of oversight while performing complex accounting work that requires the application of accounting theories, concepts, principles and standards to the financial activities of Alameda Health System. Work involves preparing and analyzing financial statements, analyzing variances between actual and budget as well as monthly variances, preparing cash flow analysis, reconciling accounts and verifying them to the source documents, and preparing analytical schedules necessary for the financial audit. Perform related duties as required. DUTIES AND JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs timely and accurate month-end closing of the general ledger, typically handling the more sensitive, difficult or complex closing activities; take the lead in handling sensitive, complex and/or precedent-setting accounting matters. Performs complex accounting work that requires the application of accounting theories, concepts, principles and standards to the financial activities of AHS in accordance with internal policies and procedures and regulatory requirements. Analyzes financial results in comparison to the budget, as well as comparisons by month and prior year. Identifies trends or anomalies in accounting system transactions and evaluates their significance of impact to ongoing programs, operations, and financial statements. Reconciles accounts to their source documents and maintains lead schedules that will be necessary for the financial audit. Proposes and executes adjustments related to reconciliations in timely manner. Provides in-depth analysis and reconciliations of complex financial data to ensure that applicable regulations and accounting procedures are observed. Performs analytical review and reconciliation of all assigned balance sheet accounts and ensures the accuracy and completeness of all transactions. Prepares daily cash summary of cash receipts; classifies receipts according to funds; collects, disburses, and maintains records for trust funds, claims, and miscellaneous revenue and accounts; prepares trial and final balances, Profit & Loss statements, cash flow statements, labor rates, amortization and depreciation schedules, perpetual inventories, etc. Leads or participates in the support of work paper development and tasks related to external financial audits. Prepares or reviews journal entries as needed. Works closely with Director, Accounting Services on activities associated with the timely, efficient and accurate month-end closing of the General Ledger. Participates in internal and external audits conducted to ensure compliance with required County, State or Federal programs, procedures and requirements. Assists in the development of audit and systems policies and procedures, prepares supporting documentation for annual financial audit and assists managers in implementing audit procedures. Reviews Fixed Assets schedules for appropriateness and adherence to AHS policies and accounting standards. Schedules, assigns and supervises the daily activities of accounting staff; trains new employees and assists in evaluation of all accounting staff; mentoring of accounting staff as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education

:

Bachelor's Degree in business, accounting, finance or a field related to the position. Master's in Business Administration (MBA) or Master's degree in Finance, Economics or related field preferred. Minimum Experience

:

Five years of full-time professional-level experience in performing accounting duties in a healthcare setting preferred. Preferred Licenses/Certifications

:
