Position Overview The Financial Controller will oversee financial planning and accounting functions for a real estate firm and its partners. This role includes managing the monthly closing process, billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, assisting in annual property budget preparation, and coordinating audits and tax filings with external CPA firms. As part of the team, the Controller will help develop and implement policies, procedures, and systems to enhance internal efficiency and reduce reporting timelines while maintaining the integrity of financial data. Key Responsibilities Manage the monthly financial close, billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and cash flow. Ensure timely and accurate production and review of financial reports, and communicate results internally and with partners. Assist in preparing annual property budgets and forecasts. Prepare supporting documents for monthly financials, property budgets, annual audits, and tax returns. Develop, document, and uphold effective internal controls. Identify and implement systems or processes to enhance internal efficiency, shorten reporting times, and ensure data accuracy. Supervise accounting staff and oversee the use of Yardi for general ledger functions. Establish and manage the company’s financial reporting IT system. Ensure compliance with GAAP standards, regulatory requirements, and partner needs across all accounts and ledgers. Undertake additional tasks and projects as assigned. Required Skills & Qualifications Detail-oriented with a strong focus on meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality work. Proficient in GAAP, tax, financial reporting, data analysis, and forecasting techniques. Capable of handling multiple tasks while maintaining organization. A collaborative team player with excellent prioritization skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Yardi software. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with various organizational levels and external parties. Excellent problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking. Experience in analyzing data to provide actionable recommendations. Knowledgeable about the real estate sector, including construction, commercial, and multi-family properties. Adaptable in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Experience 10 to 15 years of progressive experience in real estate management. Education Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration. Public accounting audit experience is preferred but not essential.
