Tax Manager, Core Tax Services at BDO USA. The role involves advising clients on tax implications of business objectives, evaluating actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, and serving as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. The Manager may contribute to marketing, networking, and business development within a tax specialization and may provide written tax advice to clients. Job Duties

Tax Compliance: ensure client compliance with applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens; ensure Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual are followed. Conduct top-level review of tax returns, resolve issues with the client, and communicate issues identified in tax accrual reviews. Plan and review the tax process, including budgeting, staffing, engagement monitoring, timely billing, and A/R collection. Manage client relationships and provide timely tax advice. Research: identify when research is needed; clearly frame issues to be researched and report the analysis. Apply Firm standards for WTA and tax return preparation; involve firm specialists as appropriate. ASC 740 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals: apply Firm policies and TQM regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48; explain income tax provision components and uncertain tax positions to clients. Coordinate with Assurance on tax accrual reviews including budget, scope, and delivery dates. Manage STS as needed. Tax Consulting: develop and implement methods to maximize client benefits by reducing current and future taxes. Assess applicability of CTS/STS for each client; develop work plans and organize STS support on projects. Provide technical resource support and assist with Written Tax Advice and exam support. Delegate projects effectively to seniors and associates. Tax Specialization: build in-depth understanding of issues in one or more tax areas (e.g., individuals, corporate, property, state and local, international, transfer pricing, credits and incentives, R&D, compensation). May lead internal CPE training in area of specialization with Firm specialists. Strategy Development: introduce and develop ideas to improve client position or Firm efficiency, review tax implications, and identify actionable recommendations. Leverage prior project lessons to improve processes. Supervisory Responsibilities: supervise and review work of associates and senior associates; train staff on software/tools; act as Career Advisor; manage workload and provide performance feedback. Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required (Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics preferred); Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred. Five (5) or more years of relevant tax experience; prior supervisory experience required; industry expertise in one or more tax specialty preferred. CPA, Attorney (admitted in U.S. jurisdiction), or EA (or equivalent) required; other professional certifications preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with tax research databases and tax compliance software preferred. Superior verbal and written communication, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and ability to develop and manage a tax professional team; capable of preparing and presenting tax advice to clients.
