Overview The Intermediate Chemist supports the Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI) Forensic Sciences Section by performing complex analytical and research tasks related to chemical analysis of biological specimens. The role ensures accurate, reliable, and reproducible results while maintaining compliance with laboratory SOPs, quality assurance standards, and accreditation requirements.

Pay commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities
Perform complex laboratory analyses of chemical substances in biological specimens, including postmortem fluids and tissues, following established SOPs.
Conduct forensic analyses using techniques such as Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS), High Performance Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (HPLC/MS), UV/VIS Spectrophotometry, and Immunoassay.
Record, verify, and maintain accurate laboratory notes and documentation in accordance with SOPs.
Participate in Quality Assurance/Quality Control activities and support the laboratory accreditation process.
Develop and implement procedures for detecting and analyzing new and emerging drugs.
Conduct research to evaluate new laboratory equipment and methodologies.
Maintain chemical and supply inventory according to laboratory procedures.
Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment in compliance with ISO and ABFT standards.
Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace.
Perform statistical analyses of laboratory data to support research and forensic findings.
Conduct independent research with minimal supervision to advance laboratory capabilities.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) or higher in Chemistry, Forensic Science, or a related field from an accredited university.
1 year of relevant experience with a Master's degree.
4 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree.
Proficient in forensic analytical techniques and laboratory instrumentation.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to perform independent research and problem-solving.
Knowledge of quality assurance, laboratory accreditation, and safety procedures.
Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
