This is a full-time, permanent position based in Delafield, Wisconsin.

The Controller will serve as the company's senior accounting and financial operations leader, responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective internal controls, and sound fiscal management in a dynamic AI technology startup environment. This role will partner closely with the executive team to provide timely insights that drive strategic decisions, maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements, and support the company's rapid growth. The ideal candidate is both hands-on and strategic, thriving in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting.

Responsibilities

Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and monthly close processes.

Prepare, analyze, and present accurate and timely financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow reports to leadership.

Implement and maintain robust internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures to safeguard company assets.

Manage the company's banking relationships, cash management, and financing activities.

Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local tax regulations and filings.

Partner with leadership to model and analyze financial scenarios to support strategic decisions.

Lead and oversee annual audits and coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial partners.

Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, reporting, and processes to support scalability.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Active CPA license (in good standing)

Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 2 years in a Controller or senior accounting role

Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control best practices

Experience with fundraising support, investor reporting, and/or board presentations

Proven track record of managing full-cycle accounting operations in a small or mid-sized company

High proficiency in accounting software (NetSuite preferred) and Excel

Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and integrity

Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment

Permanent eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship

Desired Qualifications

Experience in a startup or high-growth technology company

Familiarity with government contracting compliance, SBIR/STTR grants, or related financial requirements

Knowledge of SaaS or AI industry revenue recognition models

Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration

Hands-on experience with advanced business intelligence and analytics tools
