Level I: $1,344.00 - $1,607.81 Level II: $1,405.20 - $1,682.20 The County of Del Norte Department of Health and Human Services - Behavioral Health Branch is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Vocational Assistant I/II. This position is classified as full-time. Under close supervision performs a variety of sub-professional work in support of health programs and related administrative functions. Employees in this class receive in-service training, and are given detailed instructions in a wide variety of non-technical work. Employees in this classification receive direct supervision within a framework of well-defined policies and procedures. Detailed Work Activities

Essential job duties may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks. Provides advocacy, support, and guidance to consumers. Assists professional and paraprofessional staff in obtaining and documenting consumer information on a various forms; prepares and maintains case management records. Assists in helping consumers and their families use and learn about the resources of society, particularly medical, employment, and social services. Acts as liaison between consumers and professional staff, individuals, and groups in the community. Translates and/or aids in other ways the effective communication between consumers and agency staff. Transports or accompanies consumers on appointments for service or interviews. Assists in conducting training activities and providing educational materials for community groups, mental health consumers, family members, and staff. Participates in required training programs. Maintains electronic records of work performed. Performs related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Vocational Assistant I: Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Experience: Six (6) months of paid or unpaid work experience in a mental health or human services agency that provided an understanding or acceptance of clients served by the agency. Vocational Assistant II: One (1) year full-time experience as a Vocational Assistant I or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Requires:

Basic understanding of the needs, problems, attitudes, and behavior of clients served by the agency in the local community. Basic knowledge of community resources including social, educational and employment services. Ability to understand and accept differences in human behavior resulting from cultural, economic, or other diverse backgrounds. Ability to read, interpret, and follow departmental policies and procedures. Ability to maintain confidential information in accordance with legal standards and/or County regulations. Ability to operate standard office equipment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow workers, outside agencies, and/or the general public. Ability to meet the public tactfully and courteously and furnish routine information.
