Overview

The Controller will oversee all accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial records, compliance with all relevant regulations, and the delivery of timely, insightful financial reporting. This role will serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership, supporting decision-making with robust financial analysis and operational insights. The Controller will lead and develop the accounting team, implement strong internal controls, and drive process improvements to support a fast-paced, growing consumer products business. Key Responsibilities

Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including sales/use tax, excise tax, and other industry-specific requirements. Coordinate and manage the annual audit process with external auditors. Accounting Operations

Manage all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets. Monitor cash flow, working capital, and banking relationships. Oversee inventory accounting and cost-of-goods-sold (COGS) accuracy, working closely with operations and supply chain teams. Internal Controls & Process Improvements

Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls and accounting policies. Identify and execute opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of accounting processes and systems. Ensure strong financial discipline across departments through education and collaboration. Coordinate with operations, sales, and IT on EDI system to maintain smooth integration with ERP systems. Implement and monitor workflows to ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements, chargeback prevention, and data accuracy. Strategic Financial Support

Partner with the President and leadership team to provide analysis and recommendations that support strategic initiatives and operational decisions. Prepare budget-to-actual variance analysis, key performance metrics, and profitability reporting by product line, channel, or customer segment. Contribute to financial modeling and forecasting processes. Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Ensure adequate staffing and training to support the growth of the business. Qualifications

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred). 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a management role. Experience in consumer products, retail, manufacturing, or related industries strongly preferred. Proven experience with inventory management, standard costing, and multi-channel sales environments (e.g., e-commerce, wholesale, retail). Strong knowledge of GAAP, tax compliance, and financial reporting requirements. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems (NetSuite, SAP, or similar) and advanced Excel skills. Experience in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) environments with deep understanding of operational accounting practices and product costing methodologies. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively across functions. Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
