Overview

Construction Casualty Underwriter (Level II or Sr. Level III) – remote in Tennessee (preferably based in the Nashville area). Zurich North America is seeking a Construction Casualty Underwriter to apply marketing, analytical skills, and knowledge of buildings to analyze and underwrite new and renewal Casualty business in the US and internationally. This is a market-facing role with a strong sales execution mindset; 20% travel is expected. The role will be filled at either Construction Casualty Underwriter (Level II) or Senior Construction Casualty Underwriter (Level III). The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based on the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications.

Responsibilities

Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations. Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives and other business-related needs, as appropriate. Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition; determine insurance-related needs and provide solutions. Support the organization’s sales culture by serving as a Help Point for agents, brokers and customers. Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities. Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities. Qualify accounts to meet the organization’s appetite and balanced with sound business opportunity. Make broker/customer on-site calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.

Basic Qualifications

Construction Casualty Underwriter (Level II)

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area, OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in claims or underwriting support area, OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 1+ years in underwriting or market-facing area, OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 4+ years in claims or underwriting support area AND knowledge of lines of business and regulatory guidelines Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business Experience with Microsoft Office

Senior Construction Casualty Underwriter (Level III)

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area, OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area, OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years in underwriting or market-facing area, OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8+ years in claims or underwriting support area AND knowledge of Microsoft Office Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business Experience working in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree Commercial Construction Casualty underwriting experience and broker relationships in the South/South Eastern region Ability to effectively assess risk Strong negotiation skills Superior skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating; knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business Excellent oral and written communication skills Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines Demonstrated technical knowledge and progression of responsibilities PC and related software skills CPCU and ARM a plus

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation varies by location, role, skill set, and experience. Total Rewards information is available from Zurich. Salary ranges for this position are shown as follows: Level II: $66,900.00 - $109,600.00; Level III: $88,500.00 - $144,900.00, with respective short-term incentive bonuses of 10% and 15%. The combined salary range for this position is $66,900.00 - $144,900.00.
