Overview
Century Group is partnering with a client that is seeking a Controller to join their team. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. Expected starting base salary of $135,000 to $180,000 per year.
Responsibilities
Direct daily accounting functions including payroll, accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and job costing
Manage union payroll and benefits across multiple trades, ensuring accuracy and compliance
Prepare cash flow projections to support both operational and project-based financial planning
Collaborate with project managers to monitor budgets, track costs, and produce WIP reports
Ensure compliance with public works regulations, including timely certified payroll submissions
Requirements
At least 5+ years of experience in a senior accounting or controller role within the construction sector
A strong understanding of union payroll processes and benefits administration
Familiarity with certified payroll documentation and public works reporting standards
Ability to coordinate external audits and maintain relationships with CPA firms and financial institutions
Willingness to travel between offices in San Jose and Concord as needed
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent hands-on experience is preferred
Proficiency in Foundation Software and other accounting platforms used in construction
Knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition based on project completion
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills to manage cross-functional teams
Proven ability to improve accounting systems and strengthen internal controls
