About the Job
The Controller oversees all financial and accounting operations for a growing construction and architecture firm, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This role manages budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and strategic financial planning to support company growth.
Qualifications
Holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or MBA preferred)
Has 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership or Controller role
Possesses experience in the construction, architecture, or engineering industry
Understands GAAP, AIA billing, job costing, and WIP reporting
Is proficient in accounting software and Excel (Sage 300, Deltek, or QuickBooks experience a plus)
Demonstrates strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Works independently with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Responsibilities
Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and bank reconciliations
Manage job costing, WIP schedules, and ensure accurate project-level financial reporting
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Lead budgeting and forecasting processes, including variance analysis
Ensure compliance with industry standards, including AIA billing, lien waivers, and contract terms
Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures
Collaborate with project managers and estimators for accurate job tracking
Coordinate audits, tax preparation, and communication with external CPAs
Implement and maintain accounting systems and financial tools
Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to leadership
Mentor and lead a small accounting team
