Spokane Transit Authority
The Safety Coordinator for Spokane Transit plays a vital role in upholding the organization’s Safety Management Systems (SMS) by assisting in the implementation, coordination, and oversight of agency-wide safety, loss control, and emergency response programs. This position supports safety operations through the management of incident tracking systems, preparation of safety performance indicators, driver monitoring, and coordination of safety committees and review processes. It also assists with transitional duty programs, ergonomic assessments, and safety-related events. The role works closely with other departments to maintain compliance with safety regulations, promote hazard prevention, and foster a proactive safety culture. This position provides technical, administrative support, and reports to the Director of Safety.
Examples of Duties
Support the development of communication of safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA, WISHA, FTA, and other regulations
Act as the subject matter expert for STA’s incident tracking systems (e.g., Origami, Embark), troubleshoot with internal and external partners
Manage video request and fulfillment process for department
Compile safety performance metrics and reports, including NTD reportable events, claims, hazard reports and injury data, monitoring for emerging trends
Coordinate Safety Committee meetings, Accident Review Hearings, and other recurring safety activities: scheduling, materials, agendas, and minutes
Monitor driver and CDL-related certifications and assist in the administration of STA’s driver monitoring program
Assist in coordination and implementation of transitional duty for injured employees
Support ergonomic assessments and implementation of accommodations
Coordinate and assist with the annual Rodeo and other safety-related activities
Maintain records and documentation related to events, investigations, claims, and safety communications
Conduct documentation searches for public records requests
Assist with other Safety Department tasks and initiatives as directed
Education and Experience Training & Experience Associate degree or higher in safety, public administration, business administration, or a related field required. Experience will be counted year for year. At least three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative, safety, or risk management experience.
Physical Requirements The physical activity of this position includes the ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, feel, and talk. Must be able to perceive sounds and receive detailed information orally. Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally. Visual acuity to determine color, depth, and field of vision is required.
License Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license from the state of residence

Compensation and Benefits
Annual salary of $68,769– $92,161 depending on qualifications
