Postdoctoral Research Scholar Position - Pain Research Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences, North Carolina State University

Position Overview

The Translational Research in Pain (TRiP) Program and the Mishra Lab at North Carolina State University is seeking a dynamic postdoctoral research scholar for a two-year minimum position. The project evaluates ligand/receptor signaling in osteoarthritis (OA) pain using mouse models and naturally occurring OA in pet dogs and cats. The candidate will conduct behavioral pain assays, molecular biology assays (qPCR, Western blot, IHC, Ca2+ imaging, in-situ hybridization), and histology, and will develop independent research projects, present at conferences, publish peer-reviewed articles, prepare grant proposals, and train graduate students.

Duties and Responsibilities

Formulate and test novel hypotheses and work independently to conduct research.

Collaborate with graduate students, technicians, and faculty collaborators.

Carry out independent work, present research findings at conferences, publish results, and prepare grant proposals.

Make presentations regarding research and interact with other faculty, postdoctoral associates, and graduate students at the university level and across collaborating institutions.

Mentored to transition to an independent investigator.

Requirements and Preferences

Ph.D. (or equivalent doctorate such as M.D., D.V.M., Sc.D.) in pain research, neuroscience, or related field.

Hard working, highly motivated, and ability to handle multiple projects.

Experience with basic benchtop molecular and cellular assays (qPCR, Western blot, IHC, fluorescent microscopy, confocal microscopy).

Experience with behavioral pain assays in mice and rats.

Experience working with dogs preferred.

Previous grant and manuscript writing experience preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and outstanding organizational and analytical abilities.
