Position: Database Administrator (DBA)
Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team in a long-term contract role, with the potential to transition into a full-time position if mutually desired. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in
Sybase ASE 15.7
and
Microsoft SQL Server , along with solid troubleshooting and Unix/Linux command-line skills.
This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to operate in a formal change control environment, and the flexibility to occasionally assist with after-hours or on-call work during scheduled projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Support and maintain
Sybase ASE 15.7
databases running on
Solaris/Linux/Unix
platforms.
Assist with ongoing
migration projects from Sybase to SQL Server
environments.
Perform database maintenance, performance tuning, backups, and recovery tasks.
Develop and maintain
CRON jobs and command-line scripts
in Unix/Linux.
Collaborate with senior DBAs during after-hours implementations and scheduled maintenance windows.
Provide operational support for
SQL Server environments
(both on-premises and Azure-hosted).
Support
high-availability clusters
and
disaster recovery
environments across development, testing, and production systems.
Participate in troubleshooting efforts for database-related performance, access, and configuration issues.
Adhere to organizational policies and formal change control processes.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
10+ years
of overall experience as a Database Administrator.
4–5+ years
of experience working with both
Sybase
and
SQL Server
databases.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Hands‑on experience with
Unix/Solaris/Linux
environments, including scripting and CRON job management.
Experience working within structured
change management environments .
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with
Sybase-to-SQL Server migrations
and related
ETL tools .
Exposure to
Azure SQL environments
and
Windows Server
management.
Familiarity with clustered and disaster recovery (DR) database configurations.
