Amazon’s Special Programs, Evaluations, Assessments, & Response (SPEAR) Organization is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) for the Data and Analytics (DNA) team to build and support scalable, automated reporting mechanisms that enable customers to make effective, data-driven decisions and to reinforce the overall Rhythm of the Business (RoB). The DNA team serves as a force multiplier to the organization, providing visibility to strategic planning and operational insights for SPEAR related services. In this role, the BIE will own and architect scalable solutions across multiple business domains, driving insights through advanced statistical analysis, artificial intelligence (AI) integration, and data visualization techniques. They will lead cross-functional initiatives to develop and implement sophisticated analytical tools, self-service platforms, and metrics frameworks that enable data-driven decision making at scale. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong business acumen, demonstrating proven ability to influence stakeholders and translate complex business requirements into technical solutions. They will identify strategic opportunities, lead technical design reviews, and establish best practices while mentoring other builders. Successful members of this team collaborate effectively with end-users, software development teams, and peer engineering teams to solve problems, and implement new solutions. Experience architecting large-scale systems, implementing complex data models, and driving automation is essential. The role requires a balance of technical leadership and business partnership, with the ability to continuously evolve analytical capabilities through emerging technologies and industry best practices. The position is remotely based and requires international travel amounting to approximately 20% to ensure the delivery of this team’s mission.
Responsibilities
Own end-to-end delivery of complex data projects, including stakeholder management, technical implementation, and change management Develop and implement metrics and advanced analytics frameworks that drive business strategies at senior levels Architect and implement large-scale data solutions using multiple technologies (e.g., Redshift, MySQL, Oracle, Python, R) Identify strategic opportunities for innovation in data analytics, researching and implementing methodologies Design and drive adoption of self-service analytics platforms and visualization solutions at scale Lead cross-functional initiatives to identify and resolve systemic data quality issues Set technical standards for ETL/ELT practices across the organization Mentor others within the organization, foster data excellence, and drive adoption of best practices Establish governance frameworks and data standards Lead root cause analysis for critical business issues, delivering insights that shape organizational strategy Create and maintain technical and process documentation that enables knowledge sharing and scalability
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL, etc. experience Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS and Matlab Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling Bachelor's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, finance or equivalent quantitative field Knowledge of advanced skills in Excel as well as any data visualization tools like Tableau or similar BI tools (familiarity with Tableau preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets Master's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, finance or equivalent quantitative field

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The Colorado base pay for this position ranges from $99,500/year up to $160,000/year. The National base pay for this position ranges from $89,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
