Overview Big Data Systems Engineer (Remote) at KBR, Inc. – part of KBR’s National Security Solutions (NSS) team. The role supports the Test Resource Management Center’s (TRMC) Big Data (BD) and Knowledge Management (KM) initiatives, deploying BD and KM systems for DoD testing ranges and acquisition programs. The work aims to impact national security by enabling data analysis and facilitating DoD testing environments.

Responsibilities

Deploy and integrate the Cloud Hybrid Edge-to-Enterprise Evaluation Test & Analysis Suite (CHEETAS) at multiple DoD ranges and labs.

Serve as the frontline interface for customers when CHEETAS is first experienced in their DoD range and lab environments.

Collaborate with system administrators and software developers to communicate, document, and resolve deployment issues.

Deploy CHEETAS within disparate DoD testing ranges and acquisition programs environments, including non-standard hardware stacks and ecosystems, sometimes in DoD vaults with no outside internet connectivity.

Act as a deployment SME for CHEETAS and effectively communicate technical information to stakeholders.

Work Environment

Location: Remote (option to work from a KBR facility) with a stable internet connection.

Travel: ~25%, with surges up to ~50% to support end users at DoD ranges and labs across the US (including Alaska and Hawaii).

Working Hours: Standard.

Basic Qualifications / Knowledge

Active TS/SCI security clearance.

Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics or related) and 10 years of DoD experience; entry-level Big Data Engineers will not be considered due to breadth of knowledge required.

3+ years of hands-on experience with integration and configuration of SQL Server Big Data Cluster, CentOS, Ubuntu, RedHat, Windows Server, VMWare, etc.

5+ years of hands-on experience in big data environments.

Experience deploying and configuring Big Data and Knowledge Management tools in an enterprise environment.

Strong troubleshooting and communication skills; ability to assist customers with installation and configuration of big data infrastructure.

Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders and teams at various levels of experience.

Experience with tools and technologies such as NFS, SMB, S3, SQL Server, Windows/Linux servers.

Ability to learn new business processes or CHEETAS nuances every Agile sprint (roughly every 6 weeks) prior to customer deployments.

Strong problem-solving, documentation, and presentation skills; ability to work independently and provide design recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in government/defense labs and with DoD acquisition programs.

Knowledge of TENA, JMETC, and distributed testing/training environments.

Experience working in distributed teams and mentoring engineers.

Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity policies.

Compensation Basic Compensation

Denver, CO: $142,400 - $180,000

Los Angeles, CA: $148,900 - $200,000

Washington, DC: $148,900 - $200,000

The offered rate will be based on location, knowledge, skills, experience, clearance level, and internal parity.

Additional Information KBR may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy or contractual designation. This may include sign-on bonuses, relocation benefits, or incentives for exceptional performance.
