Overview
Big Data Systems Engineer (Remote) at KBR. The National Security Solutions (NSS) team provides high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to intelligence and national security communities. The role supports the Test Resource Management Center’s (TRMC) Big Data (BD) and Knowledge Management (KM) Team deploying BD and KM systems for DoD testing ranges and acquisition programs. This position involves deploying CHEETAS (Cloud Hybrid Edge-to-Enterprise Evaluation Test & Analysis Suite) at multiple DoD ranges and labs, and coordinating with system administrators and software developers to resolve deployment issues. Responsibilities
Deploy and integrate CHEETAS at multiple DoD ranges and labs, serving as the frontline interface for customers during initial CHEETAS experiences in their DoD range and lab environments. Work with system administrators and software developers to communicate, document, and resolve deployment issues as they arise. Deploy CHEETAS within disparate DoD testing ranges and acquisition program environments, including non-standard hardware stacks and ecosystems, sometimes in DoD vaults with no outside internet connectivity. Collaborate on the deployment and integration of CHEETAS across customer environments. Support CHEETAS deployment in DoD environments and ensure successful integration with existing ecosystems. Work Environment
Location: Remote. Option to work from KBR facilities or from home with a stable internet connection. Travel: Approximately 25% with surges up to 50% to support end users at various DoD ranges and labs across the US (including Alaska and Hawaii). Working Hours: Standard. Basic Qualifications/Knowledge
Active TS/SCI security clearance required. Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics or related) and 10 years of DoD experience. Entry-level Big Data Engineers will NOT be considered. 3 years of hands-on experience in integration and configuration of SQL Server Big Data Cluster, CentOS, Ubuntu, RedHat, Windows Server, VMware, etc. 5 years of hands-on experience in big data environments. Experience deploying and configuring Big Data and Knowledge Management tools in an enterprise environment; strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to assist customers with installation and configuration of big data infrastructure. Ability to communicate technical topics to both experts and non-experts; ability to work independently and provide design, analysis, and development recommendations. Experience with installation, configuration, integration with and usage of tools/technologies such as NFS, SMB, S3, SQL Server, Windows Server, Windows 10/11, Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu, RedHat). Ability to learn new business processes or CHEETAS nuances every Agile sprint release (roughly every 6 weeks) prior to deploying to customers. Strong ability to problem solve, debug, and troubleshoot under time constraints; capable of presenting findings to large groups and documenting repeatable procedures. Experience designing, building, integrating with and maintaining new and existing big data systems and solutions. Willingness to travel as required for customer deployments. Preferred Qualifications
Experience in government/defense labs and understanding computing restrictions. Experience with major DoD acquisition programs. Knowledge of TENA, JMETC, and distributed testing/training. Experience working in distributed teams; ability to mentor engineers of varying skill levels. Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity policies. Basic Compensation
$142,400 - $180,000 (Denver, CO area); $148,900 - $200,000 (Los Angeles, CA area); $148,900 - $200,000 (Washington, DC area). The offered rate will be based on location, knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, clearance level, contract affordability, and internal parity. Additional Compensation
