Real Estate Tax Accountant National Church Residences Columbus, OH National Church Residences , the nation’s largest provider of affordable senior housing and health care services, is looking for an experienced team member to join the Accounting Team. We are seeking a full time Real Estate Tax Accountant who will share in our vision to advance better living and care for seniors! POSITION OVERVIEW The Real Estate Tax Accountant will manage the day-to-day issues involving real estate tax exemptions, personal property and valuation preparation for over 340 properties that National Church Residences owns or manages. This position is most appropriate for someone who isn’t seeking additional accounting certification but instead brings a sharp eye for financials and a strong interest in researching and applying relevant laws and codes to identify exemptions. The ideal candidate will be adept at navigating and interpreting relevant statutes to apply requirements specific to various ownership types.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Apply for exemptions and file exemption renewals to maintain current exemptions. Work with Development and Acquisitions to communicate available exemptions on potential future projects—requires research and solid understanding of state exemption laws. Engage counsel and track denials or revocations of exemptions. Coordinate with auditors to ensure timely filing of required Personal Property returns. Review Personal Property returns to verify proper reporting of tangible items. Collaborate with auditors when needed to resolve reporting errors. Gather and review financial statements for valuation support. Process the New Property Checklist to handle exemption and personal property items. Maintain accuracy of the real estate database (REST) and Smartsheet tracking systems. Provide support to the Real Estate Tax Accountant II and Manager as needed. IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

Proficient in reading and interpreting financial statements. Strong legal research skills, including navigating, interpreting, and applying tax codes and exemption statutes. Detail-oriented with a methodical, analytical approach to problem-solving. Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Motivated by applying legal and regulatory knowledge to financial scenarios rather than striving for further accounting credentials.
