Overview

Assistant Controller – We are currently seeking candidates for an Assistant Controller opportunity with a rapidly-growing consumer packaged goods (CPG) distribution organization located in Westchester County, NY. The Assistant Controller will oversee accounting operations, managing G/L, month/quarter/year-end close, financial reporting and consolidations, GAAP compliance, and audit preparation. This is a permanent position offering a base salary between $135,000-$150,000 (depending on experience), plus bonus, and strong benefits. This role supports an onsite work model (5 days/week).

Responsibilities

Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, reconciliations, and consolidations. Partner directly with the CFO/VP of Finance in managing accounting and finance operations. Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Prepare and review consolidated financial statements and management reports in compliance with US GAAP. Partner with external auditors to coordinate audit preparation, provide supporting documentation, and address audit inquiries. Oversee payroll processing and reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Support inventory accounting, including reconciliations, valuation, and cost analysis. Maintain and strengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and safeguard company assets. Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and suppliers to resolve accounting issues and provide financial insights. Lead and mentor accounting staff as the organization continues to scale. Assist with process improvements and system enhancements. Provide additional support as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required). CPA or CMA strongly preferred. 6–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2–3+ years in a leadership or managerial position. Experience in distribution, manufacturing, consumer packaged goods, or related industry. Background in public accounting highly preferred. Strong ERP systems skills, including previous experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (required). Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Willingness to be “hands-on.” Ability to excel in a dynamic, hyper-growth environment. Strong communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and leadership skills.
