Interim Controller – Manufacturing | Kittery, ME
Contract | 6 Months | $120–$140/hr | Hybrid (1 day/week on-site)
We are partnering with a growing manufacturing company in Kittery, ME to recruit an experienced Interim Controller. Reporting directly to the CFO, this hands-on role will lead a team of three and oversee all core accounting functions—including audit preparation, month-end close, and financial operations. This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned accounting leader with a strong manufacturing background and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, private equity–backed environment.
Responsibilities
Lead the 2025 financial audit, including preliminary prep (Oct) and year-end execution
Oversee the month-end close process—review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analysis
Ensure compliance with GAAP, manage accruals, cash flow, and reconciliations
Prepare audit workpapers and coordinate with external tax advisors, maintaining understanding of entity structure and tax compliance
Lead and support a team of three (Sr. Accountant, AR Supervisor, Payroll Manager) to ensure accuracy and timely deliverables
Manage financials within Microsoft Dynamics NAV / Business Central (legacy version)
Navigate a multi-entity structure, consolidated operationally under one entity
Collaborate with the CFO, auditors, and tax consultants to maintain high-quality financial reporting and compliance standards
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
CPA preferred
8–10+ years in a Controller-level role; public accounting/audit background strongly valued
Manufacturing industry experience is required
Prior experience in private equity–backed environments is highly preferred
Strong knowledge of GAAP, audit preparation, and compliance best practices
Comfortable with a hands-on role—able to independently close the books if needed
Skilled communicator and team leader; confident interfacing with executives and auditors
