Overview
The Lead Fiber Technician is a critical role responsible for overseeing extensive fiber infrastructure and network, including the management of fiber optic systems installations, maintenance, and repairs. This position entails a high level of technical expertise combined with strong managerial capabilities to ensure efficient and effective operation, development, and enhancement of the city's technological infrastructure.
The Lead Fiber Technician will lead initiatives from conceptualization to implementation, including designing system architecture and ensuring adherence to best practices and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Direct, install, maintain, and upgrade city-wide fiber networks (including conduit systems)
Manage full lifecycle of fiber projects, ensuring compliance, timelines, and budgets
Establish and enforce quality standards, labeling, and system integrity
Serve as primary liaison with vendors and stakeholders to resolve complex issues
Lead outage response and rapid repair to minimize downtime
Must Haves
5+ years’ experience in fiber optics & network infrastructure
Associate’s degree or higher (Telecom, Networking, or related field)
Hands-on fiber splicing, testing, and troubleshooting
Knowledge of LAN/WAN, routers, switches, and GIS mapping
Familiarity with city/state/federal telecom regulations & industry standards
Proven project management (planning, budgets, inventory, quality control)
Vendor & stakeholder coordination experience
Strong documentation & communication skills
