Summary: The primary purpose of the Occupational Safety Specialist is to design, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs tailored to the needs of craft/trade and campus support staff. The specialist identifies hazards through site assessments, risk analysis, and regulatory review, then translates findings into clear, actionable materials (e.g., standard operating procedures, safe work guidelines, and training manuals). This position prepares and delivers engaging training sessions, tracks program effectiveness, and fosters continuous improvement to protect employees and promote safe work practices. Responsibilities

Develop and maintain safety programs in compliance with OSHA general industry standards and regulatory requirements, tailored for crafts/trades and campus operations. Perform hazard assessments and site inspections, conduct JHAs, and identify risks with corrective action recommendations. Deliver safety training and educational outreach, covering PPE use, hazard communication, fall protection, lockout/tagout, confined spaces, and related topics. Support continuity of operations and facility protection by implementing safety measures for emergencies, maintenance, and adverse conditions. Lead or assist in incident investigations, analyze root causes, and implement preventive measures. Monitor and interpret local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance and update programs as needed. Maintain safety records and documentation, including training, inspections, corrective actions, and incident reports. Collaborate with Facilities, Environmental Health & Safety, Human Resources, and department supervisors to integrate safety into daily operations. Promote a culture of safety by engaging employees in initiatives and serving as a resource on best practices. Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Public Health, Risk Management, or a related field (equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered). At least 2 years of experience in occupational safety, safety compliance, or a related field. Experience delivering safety training and conducting safety inspections. Preferred Qualifications

At least 2 years of experience in occupational safety, preferably in facilities, construction, or campus operations. OSHA 30-Hour certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months). Certifications such as CSP or OHST are a plus. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and standards (e.g., NFPA, ANSI, EPA). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

ABILITIES Ability to develop and implement safety programs and procedures. Ability to walk, stand, bend, climb, and work in various environmental conditions. Ability to work flexible hours or respond to emergencies when needed. SKILLS Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact with frontline workers, supervisors, and management. Proficiency with standard office software and safety-related systems/databases for training records, inspections, and incident reporting. USG Core Values
