The City reserves the right to place newly hired Police Officers at the C/starting step ($61,229.95 Annually) or the G/4 step ($74,425.38 Annually) based on prior law enforcement experience.
Position Details Under the supervision of a Sergeant and in cooperation with the community, performs a variety of policing and law enforcement activities. Duties are service-oriented and include patrol, investigation, and enforcement to promote public safety. The incumbent may face personal danger, exposure to weather, and must be able to act without close supervision and exercise independent judgment. Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, and written work. There is a possibility of assuming the duties of a Sergeant in their absence.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must be a current State of Florida Certified Police Officer

High School Graduate or G.E.D. equivalency
Pass Physical Agility Test (PAT)
Pass Swim Test
Pass Oral Board Examination
Pass Polygraph Examination
Pass Psychological Screening (Law)
Pass an extensive background investigation
Pass a Chief and/or Command Staff review
Pass an extensive medical evaluation
Pass drug detection by urinalysis
Meet current State training requirements as necessary
Stable work history
Valid driver\'s license and acceptable driving record
Ability to exercise discretion
Good moral character; no felony convictions or violent incidents
Not convicted of any felony or misdemeanor involving perjury or false statements
Military discharge must be "Honorable"
Certified Police Officers previously employed by the City of Hollywood may have certain hiring requirements waived

TESTING AND EXAMINATION Candidates must pass the Physical Agility Test (PAT) and Swim Test. Training must meet FDLE standards; submit training information with the online application. You may access the FDLE website for steps or contact FDLE at (850) 410-8600. Candidates must present documentation from acceptable testing centers indicating passing scores with their application. The Criminal Justice Testing Center at Broward Community College Institute of Public Safety conducts the PAT and Swim Test in cooperation with the Broward County Chiefs of Police Association.
REGISTRATION AND TESTING CENTERS Registration is online. Applicants must present a completed CJSTC 75 form, valid photo I.D., and pay applicable fees to become eligible for written test appointments. The Testing Center information is available via the Testing Center Information Guide. The PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST score is valid for six months; the Swim score is valid for life.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE The City values veterans and eligible spouses; veterans may receive preference or waivers for certain postsecondary requirements. To obtain veteran\'s preference, submit separation papers (DD214) and meet eligibility requirements per Florida Statutes.
DISQUALIFYING FACTORS Applicants must pass a Police Personal History Booklet review (including extensive criminal and driving history), an oral board, polygraph, psychological screening, extensive background investigation, Chief/Command Staff review, medical exam, and drug screening. The following automatic disqualifiers apply (not exhaustive):
Five or more traffic violations in the last five years or poor driving history
Two or more driver\'s license suspensions in the last five years
Any DUI arrest/conviction in the last five years
Tattoos on neck or face
Arrest or conviction involving domestic violence
Failure to disclose relevant information
Recent use of illegal substances
Discharge other than Honorable from the military
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Your application will remain on file for six months. Some disqualifications may require waiting periods before reapplication. All successful applicants will undergo extensive background checks and a medical examination, which may include drug screening, prior to appointment.
