General Statement of Duties The head coach displays the ability to manage all aspects of a public-school sports program, including coordinating high-level practice sessions and providing exceptional leadership and coaching for student-athletes during regional and state competitions. They possess a proven ability to recruit and coordinate the efforts of an assistant coaching staff, manage the team's fundraising efforts while maintaining the highest standards of sportsmanship and teamwork.

Essential Duties

Organizes the volleyball program

Prepares players both physically and mentally for interscholastic competition through practice, teaching of fundamental skills, and knowledge of rules

Checks eligibility forms and submits to the Student Activities Director

Sees that all physical and academic requirements are met by each player and submits such information to the Student Activities Director in order to establish VHSL eligibility list

Supervises the cleaning, storage, and proper care of all equipment

Requisitions, through the Student Activities Director, supplies, uniforms, and all necessary equipment

Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program

Conducts pre-season meetings with parents

Prepares daily practice schedule and conducts practice sessions

Attends all VHSL clinics

Follows county financial policies concerning the collection and receipting of funds

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to support a management program through previous experience as a coach or player.

Previous coaching experience, knowledge of the sport, and current understanding of coaching techniques and strategies.

Strong leadership and organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes.

Coaches with prior college experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
