Overview
The Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (Virginia Tech) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor faculty. The position is for a molecular virologist that studies zoonotic viruses and will establish or maintain a strong extramurally-funded research program focusing on investigating zoonotic viral infections.
Responsibilities
Conduct basic and translational research on zoonotic viral infections, host jumping, cross-species infection, viral and host factors affecting species tropism, evolution, adaptation, antiviral and vaccine development.
Interface with infectious diseases, immunology, neuroscience, physiology, engineering, computer sciences, animal and environmental sciences, agriculture, and animal and virus interface.
Participate in research and activities related to Destination 2.0 Area in pandemic prediction and prevention, recently awarded an $18 million NSF grant.
Maintain teaching and service responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D., DVM, and/or MD
Strong publication record
Postdoctoral experience
Preferred Qualifications
Strong background in virology
Strong potential for securing extramural funding
Desire to be involved in teaching and service to the University
Salary and Appointment Faculty; salary commensurate with experience. Regular appointment.
