Job Description

Position Summary: Responsible for ensuring a safe working environment and preventing occupational accidents and injuries. The Safety Specialist supports the company’s safety program within mechanical construction projects by promoting a safe work environment, ensuring compliance with OSHA, state, and company safety standards, and working with project teams to prevent incidents. This role provides training, conducts inspections, and assists management in implementing corrective actions to maintain a strong safety culture across all job sites. Keeping up to date with new laws and regulations regarding workplace safety and making recommendations for implementation. Responsibilities and Duties: Performs safety audits. Assists or conducts all safety-related training. Performs and/or assists with safety incident investigations as well as OSHA investigations. Leads the written Hazard Communication (HazCom) program: maintains SDSs, ensures secondary container labeling, and delivers initial/annual training. Verifies machine guarding, point-of-operation protection, and safe use of hand/power tools; corrects deficiencies and locks/tag unsafe equipment. Manages powered industrial truck (forklift) training, evaluations, and refresher triggers; verifies pre-use inspections and enforces safe operating procedures. Implements hearing conservation where exposures meet/exceed action levels. Ensures first-aid/medical services availability, eyewash/shower where corrosives are present, and required postings. Supports recordkeeping and incident analysis to drive corrective actions (OSHA 300/301) and verifies required posting. Monitors workplace activities on a daily basis. Identifies and reports safety violations, providing recommendations for corrective and disciplinary action. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the construction industry or a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health. OSHA 30 Certificate (General Industry). Job Skills: Knowledge of Windows-based software (Excel, Word) and any email system. Detail-oriented. Strong organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Capable of handling confidential information. Education: High school diploma or GED. Associate/Bachelor’s degree preferred. Special Requirements: OSHA 30 (General Industry).
