Pier Sixty-Six Resort is seeking a well-rounded and seasoned Club Sommelier - Garden Room to join our team. As our Club Sommelier, you will craft an impressive wine program that complements our resort's culinary creations, highlighting a diverse range of varietals from around the globe.
Responsibilities:
Curate and manage a diverse and dynamic wine list, ensuring it complements the restaurant's culinary offerings.
Provide personalized wine recommendations and expert guidance to guests, assisting with wine selection and food pairing.
Execute flawless wine service, including proper storage, decanting, and serving techniques.
Conduct wine tastings and educational sessions for staff and guests, enhancing their wine knowledge and appreciation.
Maintain impeccable inventory control, overseeing wine procurement, storage, and rotation.
Develop and implement promotional strategies to drive wine sales and elevate the overall guest experience.
Collaborate with kitchen staff to create wine pairing menus and enhance the overall dining experience.
Stay abreast of industry trends, new releases, and emerging wine regions, continuously expanding wine knowledge.
Uphold exceptional standards of customer service, addressing inquiries and ensuring guest satisfaction.
Assessing bar customer needs and preferences and be able to make personalized recommendations
Stock and maintain bar area to resort and health department standards
Provide an exceptional and memorable guest experience
Participate in ongoing training for professional development
Be responsible for the cleanliness of the immediate work area as well as the general property
Subscribe to proper grooming, dress and uniform standards as set forth by Resort policy
Be courteous to all guests and coworkers
Maintain behavior consistent with sexual harassment/hostile work environment policy dictated in the Employee Handbook
Maintain complete knowledge of all liquor brands, beers and non-alcoholic selections, correct glassware, and garnishes at their respective outlet
Collaborate with the Director of Beverage to develop and maintain a distinguished wine list that complements our culinary philosophy
Curate thoughtful pairings for tasting menus and à la carte selections, enhancing the overall dining journey
Deliver refined tableside wine service, upholding the highest standards of fine dining etiquette
Educate and inspire both guests and staff through tastings, pre-service briefings, and ongoing training sessions
Manage the wine cellar with meticulous attention to organization, vintage management, and storage conditions
Cultivate relationships with vendors and producers to ensure access to unique allocations and emerging labels
Support the dining room during service, embodying the artistry and professionalism of The Garden Room
Remain attuned to global wine trends, vintages, and producers to ensure the program remains dynamic and relevant
Qualifications:
Energetic, enthusiastic, and motivated individual
Must be able to speak, comprehend, read, and write English
Must have effective communication skills
Ability to implement and uphold service standards
Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments
Ability to interact with all associates and guests of the resort
Ability to work well in stressful, high-pressure situations
Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time
Passionate and has a knowledge of classic cocktails, wines, spirits, and beers
Ability to work under variable temperature conditions
1–2 years of sommelier or wine service experience in a fine dining or Michelin-level restaurant
Strong expertise in global wine regions, varietals, and pairing principles
WSET or Court of Master Sommeliers certification (Level 1 minimum; higher levels preferred)
A passion for hospitality and an intuitive ability to connect with guests
Excellent communication, presentation, and storytelling skills
Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by fine dining operations
Professionalism, grace under pressure, and impeccable attention to detail
Experience, Education, & Licensure:
High School Diploma or GED recommended
Some College experience or Degree recommended
Must be TIPS certified or become certified within 30 days of hire
Must have a current Food Handlers card
Previous bartending experience in a professional setting is preferred
