It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide learning activities and support that lead to course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and community. Primary responsibilities include planning, developing and teaching courses within the curriculum to facilitate student learning. Essential Job Functions

Teaches ESOL courses at a variety of times and locations Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines Meets with and advises students before or after class or by appointment, via electronic communication or other appropriate methods Evaluates students to measure progress toward course objectives and informs students of progress in a timely manner Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Mastery of course content Demonstrated leadership skills with a collaborative orientation Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work effectively with diverse people Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies including collaborative learning and distance learning Commitment to academic excellence and providing a dynamic climate for lifelong learning Ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning, learning communities, and effective use of technology Ability to engage students with effective strategies Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary with some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items. No special physical demands are required. Work Schedule and Conditions

Equipment includes PC workstation, calculator, phone and standard office equipment Interaction with internal and external contacts as needed Work performed in a climate-controlled classroom or lab with minimal safety hazards Hours vary by class time; instructors must meet scheduled classes and be available outside instruction hours Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in TESOL/TESL/TEFL, Second Language Acquisition, Linguistics, or English for teaching English; or Bachelor’s with 12 hours coursework in TESOL/TESL/TEFL, Second Language Acquisition, and Linguistics; or Bachelor’s with TESOL/TEFL certificate (CELTA/DELTA) or equivalent; or Bachelor’s with 3 years ESOL teaching at secondary/postsecondary level; or Bachelor’s with 12 hours coursework in at least 3 of the following: language teaching methodologies; nature of language; structure of English; second language acquisition; intercultural communication; or practicum experience Salary
