Santa Barbara Unified School District . Position : Paraeducator – Early Education & Support Salary : $21.06 - $22.84 per hour (based on experience) Overview

This is a state-licensed child care program. The Paraeducator assists a certificated classroom teacher with instructional and recreational activities for children enrolled in a pre-school and other early education programs. The role requires cultivating positive relationships with families, fellow educators, state licensing authorities, and community partners. Responsibilities

Provide assistance to teachers in the classroom; assemble instructional materials, reproduce materials, prepare student folders. Assist teachers with planning and facilitating a variety of activities to meet the needs and interests of students; take attendance; supervise students in indoor and outdoor play; lead students in singing, dancing and other play activities. Tutor individual or small groups of students, reinforce instruction as directed; monitor and oversee drills, practice exercises and assignments; administer, monitor and score tests and assignments. Assist with snack and lunch time; clean and sanitize eating areas; assist students with personal hygiene after meals and playground time. Operate office equipment and common software/applications (e.g., MS Office, Google Docs); use PCs/MACs and tablets as needed. Maintain student well-being by following health and safety practices; administer minor first aid as assigned; refer injured or ill students to appropriate staff. Participate in staff meetings and professional development as directed. Maintain confidentiality of student records and information according to procedures. Perform related duties as assigned and maintain punctual, consistent attendance. Working Conditions

Inside work with some outside activities during outdoor play, recess, or field trips. Able to hear and communicate effectively; read various documents; lift up to 25 pounds; and perform other physical duties as required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of basic principles of early childhood development and instructional methods. Ability to implement activities with minimal supervision to meet academic and social needs. Ability to explain rules, policies, and procedures; establish productive relationships with teachers, administrators, and parents/guardians. Ability to provide age/grade level academic support; work independently and follow verbal and written directions; meet schedules and timelines. Strong English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; ability to collaborate with others. Education, Training & Experience

High school graduation and one year of experience in an instructional setting. Additional Requirements

ESSA Paraeducator requirements can be met by completing ONE of the following: SBUSD Paraeducator Math/Language Arts Assessment California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) Two years of college (48 semester units) or an A.A. degree or higher At least six (6) semester units of Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child Development (CD) Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification (earned within six months of employment) Proof of required immunizations This position is eligible for Language Services premium pay Location: Early Education & Support site.
