Virginia Tech
This position supports research, teaching, and extension programs in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences by supervising and performing precision field tasks and experimental plot activities. The role also involves operating sophisticated agricultural equipment with a high level of proficiency.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent training and experience
Experience in operating and repairing agricultural tractors and machinery
Experience with various welding techniques (electric/arc, MIG, oxyacetylene cutting, etc.)
Experience in agricultural or livestock production, equipment operation, and repair
Ability to operate large, complex agricultural and research equipment
Ability to follow and implement written experimental and crop production plans
Ability to understand and execute complex instructions
Proficiency in reading, understanding, and adjusting computerized tractor and equipment settings
Ability to calibrate sprayers and adjust planting and harvesting equipment precisely
Maintain accurate records and follow data collection procedures
Ability to read and understand service, parts, and operator manuals
Proficiency in operating gas and electric welders, plumbing, carpentry, and performing various equipment repairs
Ability to work with livestock, including feeding, herd health, and transportation
Must obtain a valid CDL with required endorsements within six months of employment
Familiarity with basic Microsoft Office programs
Preferred Qualifications
Valid CDL with endorsements
Skills in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and masonry
Experience building and maintaining farm fences
Experience installing and maintaining water lines
Pay Band : 4
Overtime Status : Exempt (not eligible for overtime)

Salary : Commensurate with experience
